Public Speakers That Inspire Me

Shawn Achor is not only the CEO of Good Think Inc, where he researches and teaches about positive psychology, but he is always a great public speaker who has inspired me and many other people as well.  Shawn Achor has inspired me by not only possessing a personality to connect with his audience but also having the passion and purpose to be able to go above and beyond what a public speaker should be. To be a great public speaker you must find a way to connect with your audience.  For Shawn, this connection would have been through story telling and his sense of humor. In Shawn’s case this was shown in one of his speeches called “what is the happy secret to better work.” During Shawns speech at TED.com Shawn tells a personal story about when he accidentally broke his sisters leg.  Shawn adds some fictional humor to his story in order to make it more interesting and connect with his audience.   Shawn keeps his audience interested by adding sarcastic elements that has to do with computers and graphs, which is very humorous and entertaining for this specific type of audience since they are all business and computer oriented people who can all relate to what he is saying. Shawn uses a lot of eye contact as well as confidence that shows when he speaks.  People are drawn to speakers that show a lot emotion, which Shawn shows in his speech.

Shawn has inspired me during his speech about happiness and success by the way he was able to present his knowledge on this subject as well the way he could incorporate humor into his presentation to make it interesting and capture the attention of his audience.  To become a great public speaker your main objective is to find a way to connect with your audience and have enough knowledge as well as confidence about your subject in order to be able to show your audience that you are knowledgeable about what you are talking about.  By following these guidelines in your public speaking ability you will be able to inspire others just as Shawn Achor has done for me.
