Negotiating Techniques

After watching and researching all three videos about negotiating I had learned several new techniques in order to make myself a better negotiator.  All of these techniques will help me become a better negotiator and deal maker as well as give me a better understanding of how to deal with certain people in order to make a gain.  The first video, Advanced Negotiations part 1, taught me the what a adversarial bargaining and positional bargaining was, as well as problem solving bargaining.  Advanced Negotiations part 1 talked about how ethnic, cultural, and gender differences can make a huge impact in your negotiating techniques. You must understand how different cultures work in order to make the right decisions based on how others live their lives.  An example of a cultural difference might be meeting in different times of the day or knowing what needs or wants women would choose over men.  You must build trust between you and the opposing party.   Trust might be build from figuring out what needs the conflicting party has and than figuring out a plan to fix their issues through a compromise.
An adversarial bargainer is a bargainer who is usually the one figuring out the overlap.  In this case there is usually only one winner.  You are generally ridged, offensive, arrogant, and if the deal doesn’t go your way, which is usually a very good deal, than they’re usually isn’t a deal made.   A positional bargainer is done with a negotiating strategy that involves holding onto a fixed idea such as when a customer is arguing with a salesperson about lowering the price of a product.   One person provides a price while the other takes the other side and defends theirs with a different price that they could possibly agree upon.  Positional bargaining is one of the most widely used tactics and examples of negotiating.   A problem solving bargainer sees the problem as having a number of underlying solutions and wants to get along with everyone else..  Because of this, the outcome of a problem solving bargainer is always a win win solution for both parties.
The second video is called Negotiating; Getting a good deal. In this video I had learned about the goals of negotiating, the information we need to know before we make a deal, and the 3 steps used when the opposing side is using dirty tactics.  The goal of any negotiation is to get a good deal for your side of the party. The first of the 3 pieces of information that we need to consider before making any deal would be to understand what would we have if the deal fails. Secondly, will the better alternative do better than the one that is offered?  We must also understand the reservation price, which is the price to saying yes and invoking an alternative. Lastly, we must also understand the Aspiration of the deal.  The aspiration of the deal is the assessment of what we can achieve by this deal.
The 3 steps used when the opposing side is using dirty tactics
Step 1: Recognize the tactics. Understand when the opposing party is trying to deceive you in order to gain from their particular ploys.
Step 2: Raise the issue explicitly.  Bring up the question and let them know about this deception that you are aware of.
Step 3: Question the tactics legitimacy and desirability.  Produce a wise agreement that is efficient and that you could possibly gain from.
The third book is named; Negotiating Strategies and Tactics.  This book talks about the research done in order to determine the tactics that you should use in order to negotiate deals with certain types of people. This book also talks about how negotiating can benefit your career and what it takes to be a great negotiator.   Women and men differ in negotiation. Women tend to be more demanding than males and are more sensitive as well as tend to operate on a morality that is based proportionately more on caring to others and less to rules and individual rights.  Based on these results we now have a better understanding of how we should approach women in situations since they are more sensitive about certain issues as well as can be more emotional. By knowing and understanding these aspects about gender you can use them to your advantage.  Interpersonal intelligence is how well you are able to get along with others as well as being able to negotiate.  Some people are much better at it than others.  Negotiating is a skill that you can develop over time and through practice.  How well your ability to negotiation may determine how well you could possibly better your career and improve other instances of negotiating throughout your lifetime.

One of the most important people in the company is usually one of the best negotiators.  Negotiations are a guess or bid that they had come up with in order to try to get a customer to sell at. Most people are afraid to negotiate because they fear rejection. Most retailers will negotiate with you because they don’t want to loose a sale even though it could be less than what they originally wanted.  Preparation is 80% of negotiating.  Think about what you would like to accomplish as well as the goals that you have set to differ in wants and needs.  Set a starting point and know about each of the subjects that you are negotiating.  Try to be creative more than being combative.  Do research so that you are an expert in the knowledge about the subjects and know more about it than the opposition.  By rewarding and setting a consequence, they are much more likely to negotiate with you and make a deal. Emotions can help you or hurt you in any kind of deal.  Being able to control your emotions as well as delaying the deal and having more time to think about what you would like to accomplish, the more you are able to make better decisions and also negotiate in a well thought out matter.

DreamWorks

DreamWorks is a high- quality animation company that provides entertainment, including CG animated featured films, television specials and series, and live entertainment properties.  This animation company provides high-quality animation films, which are all produced in 3D for many different languages all over the world.  DreamWorks has had some of the world’s greatest computer animator’s over the years. DreamWorks has really impressed their viewers by providing such great quality and high tech films. DreamWorks animation has been named one of the “100 best companies to work for” by Fortune magazine for the past 5 consecutive years.  In 2013 Dream Works was ranked number 12 on this list, which was included in Fortune magazine.  Some of the most famous and well-known movies that Dream Works has released have been Shrek, Madagascar, Kung fu Panda, and Puss and Boots.
Recently Dream Works has been in the discussion with 20th Century Fox to handle their international release of its movies.  Dream Works may also strike a new pact with Sony Pictures but has not authorized this publicly yet.  It typically takes many months to coordinate the release of an animated film.  The release of an animated film typically takes so long because of the genre it attracts with a variety of promotional and merchandise partners.  Some of the other distribution companies that Dream Works is currently talking to besides Sony would be Warner Bros, Universal, and Disney.  Dream Works might also cut a deal with Fox to handle the release of the international release of its movies.  Dream Works would want Sony to only distribute them domestically.  Dream Works had hired former Disney distributor Chick Viane this past October to advise the studio on its options.
Because of Sony’s lack of consistency in the box office with its own division, Sony could definitely use a boast from Dream Works movies.  The partnership between Dream Works and Paramount pictures was forged and largely fruitful from benefiting from a few animated pictures that they had created together. Both companies had clashed over terms of contract renewal.  Paramount pictures now makes 8% of revenues generated by Dream Works movies, which are released, below the industry average.  Paramount Pictures have currently said that it would only renew a contract with Dream Works if they were to renew on a more favorable and profitable contract.

Public Speakers That Inspire Me

Shawn Achor is not only the CEO of Good Think Inc, where he researches and teaches about positive psychology, but he is always a great public speaker who has inspired me and many other people as well.  Shawn Achor has inspired me by not only possessing a personality to connect with his audience but also having the passion and purpose to be able to go above and beyond what a public speaker should be. To be a great public speaker you must find a way to connect with your audience.  For Shawn, this connection would have been through story telling and his sense of humor. In Shawn’s case this was shown in one of his speeches called “what is the happy secret to better work.” During Shawns speech at TED.com Shawn tells a personal story about when he accidentally broke his sisters leg.  Shawn adds some fictional humor to his story in order to make it more interesting and connect with his audience.   Shawn keeps his audience interested by adding sarcastic elements that has to do with computers and graphs, which is very humorous and entertaining for this specific type of audience since they are all business and computer oriented people who can all relate to what he is saying. Shawn uses a lot of eye contact as well as confidence that shows when he speaks.  People are drawn to speakers that show a lot emotion, which Shawn shows in his speech.

Shawn has inspired me during his speech about happiness and success by the way he was able to present his knowledge on this subject as well the way he could incorporate humor into his presentation to make it interesting and capture the attention of his audience.  To become a great public speaker your main objective is to find a way to connect with your audience and have enough knowledge as well as confidence about your subject in order to be able to show your audience that you are knowledgeable about what you are talking about.  By following these guidelines in your public speaking ability you will be able to inspire others just as Shawn Achor has done for me.

How music can positivly impact and improve your life

Music is a huge part of many people’s lives today and has also made a positive impact for many of them as well.  Music is used to express language and can have a great effect on your lifestyle.  Whether music is in the form of vocals or instrumental it can be seen as a meaning as well as emotion. We often listen to music that reflects our mood and can also say a lot about who we are as a person.  When we are happy we tend to listen to slower moving songs. When were happy we usually listen to upbeat music and when we are angry it tends to be darker heavier music.
Music has now been proven to have positive effects on the listener as well as being able to affect our mood and our emotions.  Music has helped speed up the recovery of patients going through physical therapy and post operation recuperation.   Along with the health benefits that music can have on a listener, music can also enhance creativity and performance.  Music is administered to both the left and right side of the brain making to possible to achieved creativity not previously seen before as well as bring back memories form the past.  Music can also make you move or want to dance as well as exercise harder than before. Music can be relaxing as well as give you the motivation to accomplish something that you thought was once unachievable.

There are more than enough reasons music can improve and show a positive impact in your life. Music is used to bring people together for the same common interests as well as connecting you to others.  Music can be a part of self-exploration and can even be a learning experience.  Music can be that fun and creative element that your life was once missing and can give you that motivation to succeed in whatever you are trying to accomplish.  Everyone should be exposed to every genre in order to figure out what they like and enjoy listening to.  As you get older your tastes change as well as your musical preference but even though your style may change music can always be a positive part of life for anyone.
