Leadership Mastery Journey Post week 3; Maxwell vs Greene

Maxwell vs Greene

After reading both Robert Greene’s book called The 48 Laws of Power and John Maxwell’s Developing the Leader Within You I have came to the conclusion that I am about 75% Maxwell and about 25% Greene type of leader.  I came to this conclusion depending on different situations in different kinds of business there are times when I would consider myself a Greene type of leader compared to a Maxwell type of leader.  A leadership role that this would come into play would have to be a job such as a manager or supervisor of a restaurant. My employees mean everything to the business and they would come first in this type of situation.  This business relies on the attitude as well as the impression the employees leave on the customers time after time and each time must be a positive outcome for both parties.

On the other hand if I were an owner of a record label or a sports agent, or something in that nature where I had to be tough and a little more self- centered in order to get anywhere. This would also be the same issue switched to the other side of the table as well. Being the artist or athlete and wanting the best possible agent or team for myself.  I would have to do whatever I needed in order to excel and make a name for myself.  I would only want the best of the best artists and athletes to be under my name or my reputation so I would need to do whatever I had to do in order to make this happen. In this type of business it’s either do what you need to do to be on the top or you’re always going to be on the bottom.

I would have to say that out of the majority of businesses I would have been a part of I would definitely be a Maxwell type of leader.  As I get older I do realize that my leadership roles to fluctuate back and forth between the Maxwell and Greene styles of leadership.  Sometimes things change as you get older and you are more a “cutthroat” type of leader such as Greene in comparison to someone who is all about making his or her employees happy and making it more about them.  Once you have worked in a certain place for a while sometimes you realize that you need to be a “cutthroat” type of employer or a Greene.  I try to sway toward the Maxwell side most of the time but in reality sometimes you need to have a Greene side to you as well.

Organization from a creative mind

Events are put on all around the world in just about every country all times of the year.  Events bring people together to celebrate an occasion as well as to have a great time and get away from all the stress and issues they would like to escape from for a short time.  Music festivals are a great way to get people out and together to have a great time.  Events such as these also create more jobs from events, and circulate more money around the area to more businesses.

In an article Rolling Stones Magazine an electronic music festival called Ultra is held at Bay Park in Miami, Florida every year since 2001.  Ultra is a 3-day music festival held in late March since 1999 and now brings together over 155,000 people per day. There are also new Ultra events held in countries such as Spain, on an island called Ibiza, as well as Argentina, Brazil, Chile, South Africa, and Croatia.

In an article by CBS Miami city officials feel that there might be plans of cancellation next year for the Ultra music festival because of a security guard being trampled and also injured. A crowd of people without tickets had pushed down a fence, trampling a security guard in the process.  The security guard had lived but had received a broken leg and some brain hemorrhaging as well.  Another issue was also some drug overdoses, which had contributed to the possible decision of putting an end to Ultra in the future.

I do not believe in any way that it is ok for someone to purposely try to get past security in order to sneak into any kind of event without paying for a ticket especially if it were to injure an innocent employee.  I believe that in the future this festival should have better construction of the outside fences preventing issues like this to occur so that only the ones who have paid for tickets can enter.  I do not believe that there should be an end to this festival in the future.  Ultra is a great thing to have any part of the world, especially for the city of Miami, and just because of a few small incidents such as this is not a reason to end it but to improve some of these issues that it has had in the past.
